List of 20 best airlines in the world revealed

A new list of the world’s best airlines, have been published.

AirlineRatings.com, an airline safety website which ranks carriers by safety, flight routes, in-flight service and passenger comfort, has published its recent list of “Top Airlines in the World.

However for this year, new criteria have been introduced in the rankings, and this includes how the airlines responded to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Geoffrey Thomas, AirlineRatings.com Editor-in-Chief, said, “Airlines had to be Covid-compliant to our standards to be considered, and we deleted profitability as a criterion this year.”

The website only considers airlines with seven safety stars for the annual list. That rating is based on crash history, pilot-related incidents, government audits and now Covid protocols, such as social distancing, aircraft cleaning and masked cabin crew.

In the rankings, which are judged by the website’s editors, airline service, passenger feedback and staff engagement, are also considered.

For this year, Doha-based carrier, Qatar Airways was named as “Airline of the Year” by the website, taking the Number 1 spot for its cabin innovation, in-flight service and “dedication and commitment to continue to operate throughout the Covid pandemic,” according to the site’s announcement on July 20.

According to AirlineRatings.com, Qatar Airways was also the first to complete the International Air Transport Association’s safety audit and among the first to trial its Covid Safe Travel Pass.
